In Episode 278, Trev and AJ debrief the First Squad reading, chat about The IAP Prosperous Heart creative cluster, and respond to a listener question about acting and autism. Then Trev sits down for Part 2 of his chat with Ana Carolina Valverde and Brian Ruppenkamp—otherwise known as Those Annoying Vegans— to dig into the nitty gritty of building a platform.
Building a platform—or anything, for that matter—takes time, patience, and practice. There’s always an inevitable learning curve involved, and mistakes are part of the journey. Redo’s are part of the journey. And burnout… that’s often part of the journey, too.
In Part 2 of our conversation, Ana and Brian share the nitty gritty of building their YouTube channel: what gear they purchased, what post-production software they use, how they finally found their workflow, how they’ve positioned themselves in a way that complements the incredibly vibrant and diverse community of vegan YouTubers already out there, and how they’ve learned to deal with haters, naysayers, and doubters.
The beautiful truth about the creative journey is that there’s a strong belief in the future that drives it. That belief is different for every person, but it takes guts, humility, and tenacity to move that belief from mere idea to full-blown thing-that-exists in the world.
So often, we stop ourselves because we don’t know the exact next steps. Because we’re afraid of looking dumb, messing up, or being overwhelmed. But as Ana and Brian share in this second segment of our interview, that’s the kinda stuff we look back on with a smile. Everyone starts somewhere, and the path will be full of twists and turns. But sticking with it, the journey becomes the reward.
We truly hope you enjoy the continuing conversation.
